Severed Cobra Head Kills Chef

A Chef died after being bitten by the severed head of a spitting cobra he was preparing a meal for at a birthday party. This all went down in the Foshan, the Guangdong providence of Southern China.

So is it possible for a decapitated snake head to kill things?

“hell yes…” was snake expert Sean Bush’s response. “Its a last ditch effort to survive.”

Chef Peng Fan was preparing snake soup for a guests birthday party using an Indochinese spitting cobra.

Equatorial-spitting-cobraThe snake’s head had been decapitated for a full 20 minutes before this occurred.

The chef had diced up the snake for the soup, picked up the head and was throwing it into the trash when it bit him.

This is apparently very common because snakes have a very slow metabolic rate.

This allows the brain of the snake, the venom glands and the venom delivering muscles to function up to an hour even after the blood supply has been cut off.

When the cobra bit Chef Peng, he was injected with a flesh-killing, neurotoxic venom which paralyzes the respiratory system causing you to asphyxiate, which basically means you suffocate due to lack of oxygen.

The chef could have been saved by anti-venom if they could have gotten it to him on time.

But according to the report, authorities said the chef had a “very severe reaction to the bite.”

Here is a video of a copperhead that was actually filmed biting itself
