Model Released For Disrespectful Post About Hunting Animals With Photos

Hunting in Africa has stirred up a lot of controversy for the hunters lately. Especially when they post pictures of their conquests online with disrespect. A few weeks ago, a teenage cheerleader made rise in the media and was petitioned to remove the inappropriate photos she posted on her Facebook of her smiling after killing a series of large, endangered African wildlife species. This week, a Belgian teen lost her recently signed contract with L’oreal after posting similar photographs online.

Axele Despiegelaere was photographed cheering for Brazil at the recent World Cup match. She received attention for being the most beautiful fan cheering in the stands at the game. Her page quickly skyrocketed with support from fans, getting over 200,000 likes. This led to her eventually getting an offer to sign a contract with L’oreal.

Shortly after the signing, Axele posted a photo to her page that ruined it all. The attention she was getting from her fans took a spin in the opposite direction as they shared and criticized the photo of her posing with her kill from an African hunting safari she went on last year. Already known as an avid World Cup fan, the caption she posted with the photo made it even worse.

“Hunting is not a matter of life or death. It’s much more important than that. This was about a year ago. Ready to hunt Americans today. Haha.” To her fans, the caption demonstrated ignorance and disrespect to Americans, as well as the animals she hunted in the pictures. Her posing next to a dead Oryx Antelope with a rifle in her hands, smiling sent out a negative message to the people that used to be her fans.

L’oreal, upon being notified of the teen’s behavior from an ex-fan through Twitter decided that they could no longer have Axele as a model. The company, which is one of the world’s biggest cosmetics companies, is sensitive to animal welfare. Donating $1.2 million two years ago to US Environmental Protection Agency to help the testing of chemicals with the exclusion of animals shows the value they hold of animals. The company does not test their products on animals or support the disrespect of them either, which is why they could not have Axele as a spokesperson for the company any longer.
