A woman who was savagely attacked by a bear at her residence in Florida back in April found evidence about the incident that made her blood boil. Bears are very defensive creatures that do not belong in residential areas with people because of the great risk they are to them. When Terri Frana saw the proof that her neighbor had been feeding bears in the area, she was absolutely infuriated.
Pictures of her elderly neighbor hand-feeding large black bears showed that he had been doing it for a while. Feeding these bears is not recommended and very risky because it draws them to these areas. Once the bears know that there is food in these houses, when they get hungry, there is a much higher chance that they will ravage people’s homes.
When Frana spoke of her neighbor, who she calls a “whack-a-doo,” she considers him partially responsible for the traumatic attack she endured. “He hand-feeds them,” Frana said. “He has them come right up to his patio, his porch. He has pictures of him and his wife hand-feeding the bears, petting the bears. He showed me the pictures. I was disgusted. You know, I try not to engage with him.”

Frana, who suffered an encounter with five bears that required serious medical attention soon after, does not ever want to have another similar experience or for anyone else to. As a witness against her neighbor, along with others, it has been determined that the neighbor fed many bears at a time and did so frequently enough for him to name the bears. The neighbor has since been charged with a misdemeanor for feeding the bears, and there is no word yet whether or not he continues to do so.
